My baby’s face lit up with joy this evening,
As visitors walked in with their Diwali greeting,

She mingled with ease reaching for the chips and coke,
Intermittently on her face a smile broke,

She listened with interest to the little boy’s tales,
Sometimes grimacing at the gory details,

Then his mother asked her how was her recent trip,
The little boy’s quick quip made my heartbeat skip,
He said how could she enjoy when she could not walk,
It left us speechless and all we could do was balk,

I know it must’ve been devastating for my girl,
She fought back the tears beginning to unfurl,

I wish I could shield her from all of this,
But I know her old life she does miss,
I just wish the almighty would expedite his plans,
And change all her cannots to cans
